Quickstart: your first campaign

Every new workspace comes with a published template called Starter newsletter, so you can build a campaign before you’ve set up any templates of your own. This guide takes you from sign-up to exported HTML.

You need an email address you can receive mail at. There’s no card to enter: each new workspace starts with a 14-day free trial.

If you’ve been invited to an existing workspace, open the link in your invitation email instead and skip to step 3.

  1. Create your account.

Go to app.modular-mail.com/sign-up, enter your name, work email and a password (at least 8 characters), then click the link in the confirmation email we send you.

  2. Create a workspace.

Give your workspace a name, usually your company’s or your client’s. You become its Owner, its trial starts and the starter template is added.

  3. Create a campaign.

Go to Campaigns and click New campaign. Name it, pick Starter newsletter as the template and click Create campaign. The campaign editor opens.

  4. Get to know the editor.

    The editor has three columns:

    • Outline (left): the header, the modules in your email and the footer.
    • Preview (centre): the email as it will look. Switch between desktop and mobile widths at the top.
    • Inspector (right): the form for whichever part you’ve selected.
  5. Fill in the hero.

Click the hero in the preview or the outline. Its fields open on the right. Change the heading and the introduction and watch the preview update as you type.

  6. Add and arrange modules.

Click Add module at the end of the outline and pick one from the template’s library, for example Image with text. Drag modules in the outline to reorder them. Use a module’s menu to duplicate or remove it.

  7. Set the subject and preheader.

Click Settings at the end of the top bar. Enter a subject line and a preheader, the short line inboxes show after the subject.

  8. Send yourself a test.

Click Send test, enter your email address and click Send test in the dialog. The test arrives with [MM-TEST] at the start of the subject.

  9. Export the HTML.

Click Export. Copy the HTML or download it as a file, then import it into your ESP.
