The campaign editor

The campaign editor is where marketers build emails. You need the Marketer, Developer, Admin or Owner role to edit campaigns. Viewers can open campaigns to comment and approve.

  1. Go to Campaigns and click New campaign.
  2. Enter a name. Only your team sees it.
  3. Pick a template. Templates that haven’t been published yet are listed but can’t be picked: ask a developer to publish one.
  4. Click Create campaign.

The campaign uses the template’s latest published version, and stays on that version even when the template is updated later. Its header and footer start filled with the template’s own content.

The editor has three columns and a top bar.

The left column lists the email’s parts from top to bottom: Header, your modules, then Footer.

  • Add module at the end of the outline adds a module from the template’s library. It starts filled with the template’s sample content, so the form shows what the preview shows.
  • Drag modules to reorder them.
  • A module’s menu lets you duplicate or remove it. Removing doesn’t ask first: press undo to bring a module back, with its content and comments. If the module has open comments, you’re asked whether to resolve them.
  • A red dot marks a part with problems to fix. A product or post icon marks a module filled from your store or site.

The centre shows the email as it will look, with Desktop and Mobile widths. Hover a part to outline it and click it to open its fields. Press Esc to close the open part.

The preview updates as you type.

The right column shows the open part’s form. When no part is open, it shows the campaign’s settings.

Click Settings at the end of the top bar to edit:

  • Name: the campaign’s name in Modular Mail.
  • Subject: the email’s subject line. Most inboxes show about the first 40 characters.
  • Preheader: the line inboxes show after the subject. It’s hidden in the email itself.
  • Template: the template and version the campaign was built from.

Settings save and undo like any other change.

From left to right:

  • Back to campaigns, and the campaign’s name.
  • The status: Draft, In review, Approved or Completed. Click it to change it or see recent changes. See Statuses.
  • The reviews chip, once someone has been asked to review.
  • Undo and Redo.
  • Request review, Send test and Export.
  • Settings.

Above the preview, the Edit / Comment switch changes mode. Press C to switch. See Comments.

An archived campaign opens read only, with Restore in the top bar. A campaign in a workspace whose trial has ended also opens read only. You can still export either kind.
