Comments

Comments keep feedback next to the email it’s about, instead of scattered across email threads, chat and annotated screenshots.

In the campaign editor, use the Edit / Comment switch above the preview, or press C. In comment mode, parts are outlined in blue, the cursor changes and the inspector becomes the comments panel. The switch shows how many open conversations there are.

Viewers are always in comment mode.

  1. Click the part of the email the comment is about: the header, the footer or a module. To comment on the whole email, including its subject and preheader, choose Whole email at the top of the outline.
  2. Type your comment. Type @ to mention someone on the team.
  3. Press Cmd+Enter (Mac) or Ctrl+Enter (Windows), or click Comment.

A conversation is a first comment and its replies. Comments are plain text, up to 5,000 characters.

The comments panel lists every open conversation, oldest first, each tagged with its part. Select a part to see only its conversations, or All comments to see everything. Use the filter icon to search comments or show resolved ones.

Reply at the bottom of a conversation. Replies are flat: there are no threads within threads.

When feedback has been dealt with, resolve the conversation. It’s hidden from the list but kept, and anyone who can comment can reopen it. Turn on Show resolved in the filter to see resolved conversations.

You can edit or delete your own comments. Owners and Admins can edit or delete anyone’s, to moderate. Deleting the first comment of a conversation hides its replies too.

Type @ and pick someone from the list to mention them. Only people in the workspace can be mentioned. Each person mentioned gets an email with your comment and a link that opens the campaign in comment mode.

When the workspace has Viewers, such as clients or stakeholders outside the team, the new comment box has a Team only switch. Turn it on before you post and Viewers will never see the conversation, its replies or any email about it. Use it for internal notes, such as “Waiting for the client to send the final price”.

A conversation is team only or not from when it starts. You can’t change it later.

If a module with comments is removed from the campaign, you’re asked whether to resolve its open conversations. Comments that stay are listed last, under Module removed. If the module is brought back with undo, its comments reattach.

Modular Mail emails people when there’s something for them:

  • people you mention, with your comment;
  • the person who requested a review, the first time each reviewer comments after being asked.

Nobody is emailed about their own comments, and team-only text is never emailed to Viewers.
