Exporting HTML
Exporting turns a campaign into one complete HTML email: your header, the campaign’s modules in order and your footer, with every field filled in.
Export a campaign
Section titled “Export a campaign”- In the campaign editor, click Export in the top bar.
- Check the list of problems, if there is one. Problems, such as an empty required field, are listed by part. They don’t stop you exporting, but each one is worth a look.
- Optionally, click Check with AI for a last review of the copy. See AI help.
- Click Copy HTML to copy the code, or Download to save it as a file named after the campaign, such as
autumn-launch.html.
Then import it into your ESP.
Anyone in the workspace can export, including Viewers, and you can export archived campaigns and campaigns in a workspace whose trial has ended.
What’s in the HTML
Section titled “What’s in the HTML”The export is your developer’s HTML, exactly as written, with the campaign’s content swapped in:
- The subject goes in the
<title>. - The preheader goes in a hidden
<div>just inside<body>, so inboxes show it after the subject. - Every
data-mmattribute is removed. - Parts switched off with toggles are left out, not just hidden.
- Rich text is cleaned and given your template’s inline paragraph and link styles.
- Merge tags are kept exactly as typed, for your ESP to fill in. See Merge tags and personalisation.
Images aren’t embedded. They stay linked from where they’re hosted, such as the media library or your own CDN, so the file stays small.
Re-exporting after changes
Section titled “Re-exporting after changes”An export is a snapshot. If you change the campaign afterwards, export again and replace the HTML in your ESP. Modular Mail doesn’t push changes to your ESP automatically.
Sending directly to your ESP
Section titled “Sending directly to your ESP”Modular Mail doesn’t connect to ESPs yet. We’re building direct publishing, starting with Mailchimp. See Email platforms.
