AI Writing Assistance

Modular Mail includes AI writing tools directly in the editor sidebar. Use them to generate copy suggestions for text fields and to generate alt text for images.

Note: AI features are available on select plans and must be enabled for your workspace. If you do not see the AI button in the editor, contact your workspace admin or check your plan.

When editing a text field in the campaign editor, an AI button appears alongside the field. Click it to open the AI copy panel.

  1. Open your campaign in the editor and select a module
  2. Find a text field in the sidebar (headline, body copy, CTA, etc.)
  3. Click the AI button next to the field
  4. Enter a short instruction describing what you want — for example:
    • “Write a subject line for a flash sale ending at midnight”
    • “Rewrite this as a more urgent call to action”
    • “Shorten this to under 50 characters”
  5. Click Generate
  6. Review the suggestions
  7. Click a suggestion to apply it to the field

The AI generates multiple options so you can pick the one that fits best or use a suggestion as a starting point to edit.

The AI takes into account:

  • The field’s context — the field label and character limit (if set) are included in the generation prompt, so shorter fields receive shorter suggestions
  • Other content in the same module — surrounding field values help the AI understand the email’s topic and tone
  • Brand voice settings — if your workspace administrator has configured brand voice guidelines or restricted terms, those apply to all AI generations in your workspace

If a field has a character limit (mm-maxlength), the AI attempts to respect it. Suggestions that exceed the limit are still shown — you can edit them down after applying.

When editing an image field in the sidebar, an AI button appears next to the alt text input. Click it to generate descriptive alt text for the current image URL.

  1. Select a module that contains an image
  2. In the sidebar, find the image’s Alt Text field
  3. Enter a valid, publicly accessible image URL in the Source URL field (the AI reads the image to understand its content)
  4. Click the AI button next to the alt text field
  5. Review the generated description
  6. Accept or edit it as needed

Alt text generation uses computer vision to describe the image. It works best with clear, well-lit product or lifestyle images. Abstract graphics or text-heavy images may produce less accurate results.

Tip: Always review AI-generated alt text before sending. The AI aims for brevity and clarity, but you know your content better — adjust the language to match your brand’s voice.

AI requests count against a daily workspace quota. The editor does not show a visible counter, but if you reach the limit you will see a message indicating the quota has been reached. Limits reset at midnight UTC.

If your workspace consistently hits its limit, contact your workspace admin to discuss your plan options.
